Walter Pack is part of the third edition of B Global Talent, a program for attracting and developing national and international talent promoted by the Provincial Council of Bizkaia, within the framework of Bizkaia with the talent, and developed by Mondragon Team Academy – Faculty of Business Studies at Mondragon Unibertsitatea. This initiative aims to connect global talent with local companies through corporate intrapreneurship, generating value and fostering innovative solutions to real challenges. In this edition, 17 young professionals with STEM profiles from 12 different nationalities will work over the coming months on real projects in companies based in Bizkaia. Among the participating organizations are C2Business, Irontec, Agintzari, Code Contract, ZUNIBAL, IELLOW, Fuelium, Moviltik, Leartiker, Le Bigott, Brain and Code, weetbe, TITAN Industrial, and Walter Pack, which welcomes Víctor Baraza to our plant in Igorre. At Walter Pack, Víctor is joining for the next two months as an intern to support the finance department with a project on artificial intelligence, paving the way to integrate this technology into our processes. The initiative kicked off with a 36-hour hackathon and a bootcamp held at the BAT B Accelerator Tower, the epicenter of innovation and entrepreneurship in Bizkaia. This space hosts a large community of startups, companies, investors, and tech agents that drive new projects and collaboration opportunities. “At Walter Pack, we believe that opening our doors to initiatives like B Global Talent is a real way to learn together, explore new ideas, and continue growing as an organization. Consumer electronics and automotive trade shows are ideal stages for manufacturers and suppliers to showcase their latest ideas and technologies, spot trends, get inspired, and tap into networking and business opportunities. The inaugural Electronics Home in Mexico ticked some of these boxes but once again made clear the strength and global reach of Chinese manufacturers. Ander Irazu, Key Account Manager for the North American market based at Walter Pack Querétaro, returned from the event with mixed feelings. On the one hand, he noted that about 95% of the exhibitors were Chinese, which limited the fair’s business potential, at least from an immediate perspective. On the other hand, it didn’t close all doors. Walter Pack seized the chance to explore collaborations with several European companies also attending the fair, both from its Igorre headquarters and its Mexican branch. “They manufacture coffee machines and other appliances that include decorative plastic components — parts we could help them transform at Walter Pack.” Ander explains. “Home products are becoming increasingly smart, and that’s where we see huge opportunities to add value through our plastronics technology and decorative solutions. We’re still relatively unknown in this sector, but step by step we’re gaining ground with key components.” One key takeaway from the show is clear: manufacturers want products that stand out aesthetically but also integrate the connectivity and AI elements that consumers now expect. “Personalization in design is increasingly valued, and in this regard, we offer a broad portfolio with multiple options that can be tailored to every need. We’re not just producers of decorative parts — we’re also integrating innovative technologies like In-Mold Electronics, which allows us to add functionality to the decorative surface. This positions us as a unique regional partner, able to deliver end-to-end solutions from any of our plants worldwide.” Ander says. In his view, this is a “great competitive advantage” because it enables them to combine custom design with three processes — the decorative film, injection molding, and electronic elements — all under one roof as a single regional supplier. “What manufacturers really value is our ability to offer high customization, but also the convenience of having it all in one place. Many clients are still sourcing these components separately, but we can help them save significantly on cost, resources, and logistics. Plus, being based in Mexico for the NAFTA market is key for them. For projects that aim to reshore production to the Americas, having a local supplier that can deliver this integrated technology under one roof is a real differentiator,” he explains. Ander is well aware that Chinese manufacturers work with very competitive production times and deliver ambitious lead times for prototypes that European suppliers — or even those based in Mexico — often struggle to match. Still, the uncertainty of tariffs and rising logistics costs are “an opportunity” for companies like Walter Pack to strengthen their regional presence. Beyond that, Ander says the trade show revealed some clear trends, both in terms of functionality and design. “New appliances are swapping out mechanical parts for smart components that connect within the home,” he adds. “It’s amazing to see more and more robots, smart vacuums, and connected kitchen appliances powered by AI. I think this is the most striking and disruptive trend we’ve been seeing in recent months.” He concludes: “I see the home appliances of the future as more efficient and sustainable devices, made from lighter, eco-friendly materials. They’ll have a neutral look and functional design, yet with a more elegant, minimalist style.”

Walter Pack Querétaro showcases its innovation power to a Bizkaia government delegation

  Walter Pack Mexico became a benchmark for the Basque industry on Thursday when it received Ainara Basurko, Provincial Deputy for Economic Promotion of Bizkaia, accompanied by an institutional and academic delegation. The group, on a tour of Mexico to learn about the performance of Basque companies abroad, was impressed by the plant’s evolution since its opening in 2015 and by the company’s commitment to diversification, technological innovation, and local talent development. Traveling with the deputy were Cristina Múgica Vargas, Director General of Territorial Competitiveness and External Promotion; Bilbao City Councilor Kontxi Claver, head of Economic Development, Commerce, Tourism and Employment; and academics Jon Altuna, Vice-Rector of Mondragon Unibertsitatea, and Lander Beloki, Dean of its Business Faculty. The group was completed by Alfonso Etxanobe, executive at the consulting firm LKS Next, and Rafael Villeda Lugo, Director of Outreach and Continuing Education at Mondragón University Mexico. A decade of strategic growth During a 90-minute tour, the team showcased the plant’s journey: more than fifty people, cutting-edge technologies, and a portfolio serving clients in the automotive sector —including BMW—, home appliances, and consumer electronics. Educational bridge and community commitment The visit included a five-part presentation —history, connection with Euskadi, local environment, collaboration with Mondragón University Mexico, and growth plans— culminating in the announcement of a working group with UMx for dual training and knowledge transfer projects, thus strengthening Walter Pack’s commitment to the Bajío ecosystem. Vision for the future Walter Pack’s plans include further development in high value-added sectors and in technologies that combine functionality and design. “Querétaro is already a strategic hub for innovation and production within the group and we will continue investing in talent, innovation, and strategic partnerships to create value in both Mexico and Euskadi,” said Miguel Bernar.

Walter Pack cuts its Scope 2 carbon footprint in half and strengthens its commitment to clean energy

At a time when the industrial sector is being called to take a leading role in the fight against climate change, Walter Pack has made a decisive move toward a more responsible energy model. The organization has successfully reduced its Scope 2 carbon footprint from 990 tons of CO₂ in 2023 to 435.27 tons in 2024 — a 56% reduction in just one year. Scope 2 emissions refer to indirect greenhouse gas emissions associated with the consumption of purchased electricity. Although they are not produced directly at our facilities, they are linked to the source of the energy we use. In this case, the achievement was made possible by switching to an electricity supplier that guarantees 100% renewable energy, ensuring that all electricity consumed comes from clean sources. This milestone is part of a broader global trend. According to the International Energy Agency (IEA), electricity generated from renewable sources prevented more than 2.5 billion tons of CO₂ emissions worldwide in 2023, establishing itself as one of the most effective levers in the ecological transition. “This step reflects our commitment to acting responsibly and consistently. Choosing energy with a renewable guarantee is not just a technical decision — it’s a commitment to a more sustainable model and a better future for all,” says Amaia Torrontegi, ESG leader at Walter Pack. Walter Pack’s sustainability strategy continues to evolve. This reduction speaks not only to quantitative improvement, but also to a new way of doing things — more conscious, more demanding, and more deeply committed to the planet.

On Friday, March 21, Walter Pack Igorre opened its doors to 26 students from the Bachelor’s Degree in Modern Languages and Management at the University of Deusto, for a visit designed to offer an up-close look at our organization, processes, and management model. A day of sharing Throughout the tour of our facilities, the students experienced firsthand how we combine technological innovation, teamwork, and a management approach rooted in shared responsibility. They were also introduced to the NER model, which guides our daily work and shapes how we understand and run the organization. The visit was led by Jose Luis Goicolea, along with Unai Landajuela and Raúl Mateos, who shared their insights and responded to the group’s questions, fostering an enriching dialogue about the present and future of the professional landscape. Connecting with new talent Initiatives like this strengthen the link between Walter Pack and the academic world, and are part of our ongoing commitment to engage with emerging talent. Sharing who we are and how we work with the next generation is key to building a connected, human, and sustainable future. Components must withstand extreme conditions, from sub-zero temperatures on an electric car’s front panel to the daily use of a kitchen appliance. This is where advanced coatings come into play, such as UV-protected and chemically resistant hardcoats. In this regard, Walter Pack has developed processes that minimize waste and optimize material usage, moving towards more responsible production. Evolution in Aesthetics Design follows its own evolution, reflecting changes in consumer habits and preferences. While a few years ago, black piano finishes dominated the scene, today matte tones, textured finishes, and metallic combinations are taking center stage. In the home appliance sector, colors inspired by natural materials are redefining the concept of luxury, moving away from traditional stainless steel to warmer and more sophisticated options. This event brought together top industry leaders to showcase innovations that are transforming user experiences and redefining the future of vehicles. Invisible Integration with Decorative Films Among the most prominent trends are transparent decorative films and “hidden-until-lit” solutions, which enable screens and panels to be seamlessly integrated. These technologies offer a perfect blend of functionality and design, transforming interiors into more personalized and sophisticated spaces. Ambient Lighting: Design and Sustainability Likewise, ambient lighting continues to advance toward greater uniformity and sustainability, with innovative applications in instrument panels and interactive surfaces. These solutions not only enhance the user experience but also drive design toward smarter and more sustainable interiors. Walter Pack was present at this exhibition at the ICEX Spain Export and Investment pavilion, with the participation of Sonia López from the Color & Trim area, and Joseba Garai, Automotive KAM.

The Sustainable Revolution in Flexible Electronics

A recent study by the Finnish research center VTT has opened a window into a more sustainable future in the flexible electronics industry. The key lies in changing the way we manufacture these devices, and the results are promising: implementing new methodologies can reduce environmental impact by up to 86%. The project, developed in collaboration with LUT University and co-financed by Business Finland, proposes replacing traditional processes like circuit etching (PCB etching) with additive printing techniques on biodegradable substrates such as paper or bioplastics. This change not only drastically reduces material waste and energy consumption but also eliminates the use of harmful chemicals, bringing the industry closer to a more circular and sustainable model. A direct impact on our business The transition to more sustainable processes directly affects organizations like Walter Pack. Adopting these technological innovations not only responds to the growing customer demand for more environmentally friendly products but also aligns with international regulations shaping the industry’s direction. The study proposes replacing it with more sustainable alternatives, such as copper or carbon-based materials, further reducing the ecological footprint. A global challenge with a view to the future The flexible electronics market will reach $45.88 billion by 2026, while the volume of electronic waste could exceed 74 billion kilograms by 2030. Faced with this reality, initiatives like ECOtronics, led by VTT, aim not only to reduce the environmental footprint but also to lay the foundation for an industry that can comply with regulations such as the European Commission’s sustainable product initiative and meet the demands of more conscious consumers. Walter Pack Featured in a Special Broadcast from Igorre on Bizkaia Irratia

Last December 28th, Bizkaia Irratia, a radio station known for giving a voice to local realities and initiatives in Basque municipalities, broadcasted a special edition of Herriz Herri. This program, hosted by Beñat Igarza, was recorded live from the Kultur Etxea in Igorre and was dedicated to highlighting the dynamism of the municipality in areas such as culture, sports, and industry. Walter Pack played a prominent role in this special, with the participation of Itxasne Cruz, Project Leader at the Igorre plant, who shared the story of our organization since its beginnings in the Arratia valley. During her speech, Itxasne emphasized how our evolution has been driven by a clear purpose: “At Walter Pack, we work to transform how people interact with technology through decorative and functional solutions, always with a strong commitment to people and the environment around us,” she stated.
