Walter Pack cuts its Scope 2 carbon footprint in half and strengthens its commitment to clean energy

At a time when the industrial sector is being called to take a leading role in the fight against climate change, Walter Pack has made a decisive move toward a more responsible energy model. The organization has successfully reduced its Scope 2 carbon footprint from 990 tons of CO₂ in 2023 to 435.27 tons in 2024 — a 56% reduction in just one year.

Scope 2 emissions refer to indirect greenhouse gas emissions associated with the consumption of purchased electricity. Although they are not produced directly at our facilities, they are linked to the source of the energy we use. In this case, the achievement was made possible by switching to an electricity supplier that guarantees 100% renewable energy, ensuring that all electricity consumed comes from clean sources.

This milestone is part of a broader global trend. According to the International Energy Agency (IEA), electricity generated from renewable sources prevented more than 2.5 billion tons of CO₂ emissions worldwide in 2023, establishing itself as one of the most effective levers in the ecological transition.

“This step reflects our commitment to acting responsibly and consistently. Choosing energy with a renewable guarantee is not just a technical decision — it’s a commitment to a more sustainable model and a better future for all,” says Amaia Torrontegi, ESG leader at Walter Pack.

Walter Pack’s sustainability strategy continues to evolve. This reduction speaks not only to quantitative improvement, but also to a new way of doing things — more conscious, more demanding, and more deeply committed to the planet.
